• Play back a title or chapter, pause playback,

• You may not be able to record a DVD VIDEO depending on the disc.

2 Insert an MD.

Close the write protect knob on the MD

beforehand ( page 72).

3 Press to select the MDLP mode.

Each time you press , the display tog- gles as follows.

:For standard stereo recording (Maximum recording time is 80

minutes with an MD 80).

:For ×2 extended stereo recording (Maximum recording time is 160

minutes with an MD 80).

:For ×4 extended stereo recording (Maximum recording time is 320 minutes with an MD 80).

As you change the MDLP mode

(SPLP2LP4), the sound quality also changes. When you want to record sound at the best possible quality, select the SP mode.

When you use an MD car audio system, portable MD player or other MD player that is not compatible with the MDLP mode, select the SP mode.

4 Press to set group recording.

Each time you press , the display toggles as follows.

:Activates group recording (initial

setting).

: Cancels group recording.

You can form or cancel a group after the

recording finishes. ( pages 60 and 63)

5 Press to select the recording speed.

Each time you press , the display toggles as follows.

:×5 high speed recording (only for CDs)

: Normal speed recording

Select normal speed when you want to play back a disc other than a CD. If you select "×5 SPEED" for a disc other than a CD and

press , "CANNOT REC ×1 REC ONLY" appears in the display window and record- ing does not start.

Recorded sound quality is the same for both high speed recording and normal speed recording.

You cannot listen to the sound during ×5 high speed recording.

6 Press .

When "HCMS CANNOT COPY" appears, refer to pages 71 and 73.

NOTE

The recorded sound level is automatically adjusted.

The CD rotates at high speed during x5 high speed recording. Therefore, depending on the condition of the CD, the sound may be recorded improperly and affected by noise. If the sound is not recorded properly, select normal speed recording.

The remaining time for recording differs depend- ing on the selected MDLP mode.

You cannot record sound while the repeat play- back function is on. Starting the recording func- tion automatically cancels repeat playback.

While recording a DVD video, you cannot make settings on the DVD including audio, subtitle, view angles, picture magnification and surround mode selection.

During the recording operation, the surround

mode is automatically deselected (

page
