NOTE: Before activating the battery carrier tamper resist feature, make sure a fresh battery is installed in the unit and that the battery carrier is properly closed. If the bat- tery carrier tamper resist feature is activated while the battery carrier is open, the battery carrier will not close and the unit will be inoperable during the loss of AC power.

To deactivate the battery carrier tamper resist, in order to change the smoke alarm battery, remove the unit

from the trim plate (see Smoke Alarm Tamper Resist Feature if activated), discon- nect the AC quick connector and locate the small cut-out in the middle of the product label. Using a screwdriver, or similar tool, slide the switch towards the bottom of the product label. The battery carrier can now be opened and the battery changed.

4. OPERATION AND TESTING

OPERATION: The smoke alarm is operating once A.C. power is applied, fresh batteries are installed and testing is complete. When the smoke alarm ionization chamber senses products of combustion, the horn will sound a loud (85db) tem- poral alarm until the sensing chamber is cleared of smoke particles.

SMART HUSHTM CONTROL: The “HUSH” feature has the capability of temporarily desensitizing the alarm circuit for up to 8 minutes. This feature is to be used only when a known alarm condition, such as smoke from cooking, activates the alarm. The HUSH feature cannot be activated unless the smoke alarm is sound- ing in the originating alarm mode. The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the “TEST/HUSH” button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately. The red LED will illuminate for 1.5 sec- onds every 8 seconds while in hush. This indicates that the alarm is in a tem- porarily desensitized condition. The smoke alarm will automatically reset after approximately 8 minutes and sound the alarm if particles of combustion are still present. The “HUSH” feature can be used repeatedly until the air has been cleared of the condition causing the alarm. Pushing the Test/Hush button on the alarm will end the hush period.

NOTE: DENSE SMOKE WILL OVERRIDE THE HUSH CONTROL FEATURE AND SOUND A CONTINUOUS ALARM.

CAUTION: BEFORE USING THE ALARM HUSH FEATURE, IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE SMOKE AND BE CERTAIN A SAFE CONDITION EXISTS.

LED INDICATORS: This smoke alarm is equipped with red and green LED indica- tors. The green LED (when illuminated) indicates the presence of AC power.

i12060 specifications

The Kidde i12060 is a user-friendly, advanced smoke alarm that embodies safety and innovation in residential fire prevention. Designed to protect homes and families, it utilizes a variety of modern features and technologies to ensure early detection of smoke, providing crucial time for residents to escape in the event of a fire.

One of the main features of the Kidde i12060 is its 120V AC power source with a battery backup. This dual power option ensures that the alarm remains operational even during power outages, delivering peace of mind to homeowners. The backup battery can be easily replaced, ensuring the alarm's functionality is always maintained.

The unit is equipped with a photoelectric sensor, which is particularly effective at detecting smoldering fires that might produce more smoke than heat. Unlike traditional ionization detectors, photoelectric sensors reduce false alarms caused by cooking or other non-threatening activities. This technology is critical for maintaining a hassle-free living environment while still ensuring optimum safety.

Another standout feature is the Smart Hush™ technology, which allows users to temporarily silence the alarm in the event of a non-emergency situation, such as a false alarm triggered by steam or cooking smoke. This reduces the likelihood of disruption while still allowing the alarm to maintain its readiness.

The Kidde i12060 also incorporates a loud 85-decibel alarm, which is designed to alert everyone in the household, even those who may be hard of hearing. The alarm can easily be mounted on walls or ceilings, facilitating flexible installation based on the layout of the home.

Additionally, the smoke alarm comes with a test/reset button that enables users to quickly check the unit's functionality and reset it after an alarm or false alarm situation. The LED indicator light provides a visual cue of the alarm’s status, ensuring users are well-informed about its condition.

With its sleek design, the Kidde i12060 complements various home aesthetics while prioritizing safety and reliability. The device is UL-listed, ensuring it meets rigorous safety standards set by Underwriters Laboratories, which is essential for consumer confidence.

In summary, the Kidde i12060 smoke alarm merges effective detection technologies with user-friendly features, making it an essential component of any home safety plan. Featuring a reliable power source, advanced sensor technology, and intuitive functions, it stands out as a trusted device for protecting families from fire hazards.
