Note: The “Atomic Clock” receiver ONLY operates when the KC-120ST is in standby mode. The clock will NOT set itself while the radio is playing.

The Atomic Clock receiver inside the KC-120ST picks up and decodes the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology broadcast from Long Wave radio station WWVB located near Ft. Collins Colorado. The time information in the data stream from WWVB is controlled by several atomic clocks located at the station’s site. These clocks are for all practical purposes the US time standard. WWVB is not a conventional radio station, as it does not broadcast entertainment or human understandable information. The frequency used by this station is 60 kHz, which is well below the lower end of the AM radio band. As such, it is subject to significant interference from power lines, fluorescent lights, light dimmers etc. Usually the signal from WWVB is strongest at night. The power level used by the station is such that it can be received over most of the continental US and southern Canada for at least a few hours out of each 24-hour period.

Because the signal from WWVB must travel more than a thousand miles to the largest population centers and is subject to propagation conditions plus interference, we cannot guarantee that the user will always be able to find a location where the KC-120ST will consistently set itself.

The time display will flash 12:00 until the clock automatically synchronizes with WWVB or until it is manually set. If you notice the display flashing 12:00 after a power failure, replace the two AAA batteries located in the compartment on the bottom of the KC-120ST.

Setting the clock Manually (You must progress through the following process with less than 10 seconds between steps to avoid dropping out of time set mode.)

1.If the KC-120ST is playing, press the ON/STANDBY button (11) to enter standby mode.

2.Hold the MEM/CLOCK SET button (15) down for 2 seconds. The time display will begin flashing. Note: If this function is accidentally activated while the KC-120ST is playing, do nothing and normal operation will resume after 10 seconds.

3.Within 10 seconds, press TUNING UP/DOWN/SKIP button (7) to set the hour. Up increases the hour, Down decreases the hour. PM will be indicated in the main display window on alternate 1 through 12 cycles.

4.Press MEM/CLOCK SET (15) to advance to minute setting. As before,

within 10 seconds, press TUNING UP/DOWN/SKIP button (7) to set the minute. The seconds will start from 00 when you move on from this step.
