For recycling exhausted batteries or batteries removed from a used product, as a precaution against a short circuit, that could result in smoke or fire, please tape the terminals to insulate them or put them in a plastic bag and take them to a retailer participating in a recycling program, where you can deposit them in a recycling box for rechargeable batteries.
