Section 4: Maintenance and Lubrication

3.Check blade balance by positioning the blade horizontally on a nail or shaft through the center hole. See Figure 4-5. If either end of the blade rotates downward, grind (remove) metal on that end until blade will balance. The blade is properly balanced when neither end drops. Balance of a blade is generally maintained by removing an equal amount of material from each end of blade when sharpening.

4.Mount blade with wing tips pointing up towards bottom of deck. Reinstall blade, blade washer and bolt. Care should be taken when installing blade bolt not to get it cross threaded. Do not exceed 55 ft.-lbs. of torque on bolt.

Storage

At end of working season or when the mower will not be used for a long period, it is good practice to clean off any dirt or grease that may have accumulated on the mower and any of the moving parts.

1.Clean off any dirt or grease that may have accumulated on the deck and moving parts. Scrape off compacted dirt from the bottom of the deck and then wash the surface thoroughly with a garden hose. A coating of oil may also be applied to the lower deck area to minimize oxidation.

2.Check blades for wear and replace if necessary, see Servicing Mowing Blades, this section on page 17.

3.Inspect mower for loose, damaged or worn parts and adjust or replace as needed.

4.Lubricate as noted in the Lubrication portion of this section starting on page 20.

5.Store unit inside if possible for longer life.

6.Repaint parts where paint is worn or scratched to prevent rust. Ask your dealer for Aerosol Land Pride touch-up paint.

NOTE: Care should be taken in order not to remove any more material than necessary to sharpen blade.
