PRECAUCIONES BÁSICAS DE SEGURIDAD (CONT.)

•NO vuelva a congelar alimentos que se hayan descongelado por completo. El Ministerio de Agricultura de los EE.UU., Boletín N° 69 sobre Hogares y Jardines señala:

... Pueden volverse a congelar los alimentos que hayan sido descongelados si todavía contienen cristales de hielo o si todavía están fríos, por debajo de 40°F (4°C).

... Las carnes rojas picadas, carnes de ave, o pescado que tengan olores o colores extraños no deben volver a congelarse y tampoco deben consumirse. Los helados descongelados deben eliminarse. Si el olor o color de cualquier alimento es pobre o dudoso, elimínelo.

Dicho alimento puede ser peligroso para la salud. Incluso el descongelado parcial y recongelado reduce la calidad comestible de los alimentos, en especial frutas, vegetales, y comidas preparadas. La calidad comestible de las carnes rojas se ve menos afectada que la de otros alimentos. Utilice alimentos recongelados lo antes posible para preservar la mayor calidad posible.

Riesgo de encierro para niños

Los refrigeradores eliminados o abandonados son peligrosos, aunque queden en un sitio durante sólo unos días. Si va a desechar su viejo refrigerador, siga las siguientes instrucciones para prevenir accidentes.

Antes de eliminar su viejo refrigerador o congelador:

•Quite las puertas.

•Deje los estantes en su lugar para que los niños no puedan subirse fácilmente.

ELIMINACIÓN DE CFC

Su viejo refrigerador puede tener un sistema de enfriamiento con CFC (clorofluorocarbonos). Se cree que los CFC son dañinos para el ozono estratosférico.

Si va a tirar su viejo refrigerador, asegúrese que quitar el refrigerante CFC para una eliminación adecuada por parte de un técnico calificado. Si libera este refrigerante de CFC de manera intencional, usted puede ser objeto de multas y de prisión según lo indicado por la legislación ambiental.
