Setting the Controls
1. Placepan on surfaceelement.
2.Pushin and turn the knob in either direction to the desired heat setting,

3. Thereis anindicatorlight by eachpair of controlknobs.Whenone orboth of thesurfacecontrolknobsis tumedon, the light will turn on. The light will
turn off whenthesurfaceelement(s)is turned off.
4.After cooking,turn knob to OFF.Re- movepan.
Suggested Heat Settings
Thesize,typeof cookwareand cooking
operation will affect the heat setting. For information on cookware and other fac-
tors affectingheat settings, refer to "Cook- ing Made Simple" booklet.
High: Use to bring liquid to a boil. Al- ways reduce setting to a lower heat when
liquids begin to boil or foods begin to cook.
Medium: Use to Off

CAUTION:
Before Cooking
•Always place a pan on the surface unit before you turn it on. To pre- vent damageto range,neveroper-
ate surface unit without a pan in place.
•NEVER usethe cooktop as astor- age areafor food or cookware,
During Cooking
•Know which knob controls which surfaceunit. Makesureyouturned on the correct surface unit.
•Begin cooking on a higher heat setting then reduceto a lower set- ting to complete cooking. Never use a high setting for extended cooking,
•NEVER allow a Dan to boil dry. Thiscould damagethe pan andthe appliance.
•NEVER touch cooktop until it has cooled. Expect some parts of the
cooktop,espec_allyaroundthesur- face units, to becomewarm or hot
during cooking. Use potholders to protect hands.
After Cooking
•Clean up messy spills as soon as possible.
Other Tips
•If cabinet storage is provided di- rectlyabovecooking surface,limit it to items that are infrequently used and that can be subjected to heat.
Temperaturesmay be unsafefor items such as volatile liquids, cleanersor aerosol sprays.
•NEVER leave any items, espe- ciallyplasticitems,onthecooktop. The hot air from the vent may ignite flammable items, melt or soften plastics, or increasepres- sure in closed containerscausing
them to burst.
•NEVERallowaluminum foil, meat
probesorany other metalobject, other than a pan on a surface
element, to contact heating ele- ments.
