Problem solving guide

Excessive build-up of foam

To avoid this problem from the outset, take note of the following points:

Use only low-sudsing powder deter- gents. If foaming still occurs, cut back to approximately 2/3 of the manufacturer’s recommended quan- tity.

For lightly soiled articles or a small load, reduce the amount of deter- gent accordingly.

Pre-soaked items should be rinsed thoroughly before washing.

It may be necessary to run a short wash cycle without detergent or clothes in order to flush excess foam out of the machine. The machine should run normally after this proce- dure.

Lime deposits are visible on the surface of the drum

Use a descaling agent to remove the deposits. Consult the manufacturer’s instructions before use to ensure that the product is suitable for use in washing machines.

Pilling is evident on the fabrics

Normal, everyday wear of certain fab- rics causes pilling to occur. The Gentle action option should be selected when washing these fabrics, or use a pro- gramme with a higher water level and reduced agitation to decrease the risk of further pilling (e.g. Fine/Delicates or Woollens).

Grey, greasy particles cling to washed laundry

The wash load was heavily soiled with greasy substances such as ointments or lotions, and the amount of detergent was insufficient to break down the par- ticles of grease.

In the future, when washing loads of this nature, add more detergent to the main wash compartment or use the pre-wash cycle with detergent. Before washing the next load, run a Cottons 60°C programme with deter- gent, but without a load, to clean the machine.
