Check also that the front window is not obscured on either the system unit or the handset. Periodic cleaning with a soft lint-free cloth is advised.

System BIOS

Check the system BIOS to ensure that it has not been disturbed from the original settings. If the settings appear to have altered, there may be a fault with the BIOS battery. See Appendix B, ‘System Motherboard’ and Appendix C ‘System BIOS and set-up’.

The system’s disk drives

Refer also to the chapter on using the ‘system drives’.

Floppy disk drives

If you have problems accessing a diskette or floppy disk, check that it is inserted correctly, that it has been correctly formatted, that is not write-protected, and that the permissions assigned by the BIOS allow the intended access. Some application software may not allow you to read or write to floppy disks while performing certain other tasks, or waits until you are about to exit the programme.

CD-ROM drives

If you have problems accessing a CD, check that you have allowed a few seconds for the disk to spin up to full speed, that the disk is the correct way up in the drive and that it is a data CD. Remember that you cannot save your data onto a CD with a conventional CD drive and disk.

Hard disk drives

If you have problems accessing your hard disk drive, check that the controller to which the drive is connected is enabled, that the disk has been correctly formatted, and that the permissions assigned by the BIOS or the software that you are using allow the intended access.
