Television card (if fitted)

Black screen, Coloured screen, Snowy picture or just Blank screen. This can be symptomatic of one or more minor problems ;

Check that your Monitor signal lead is connected to the TV card and not the normal Monitor port.

Check that the external VGA loop, from Monitor port to the TV card VGA IN is fitted.

Ensure that the Windows 95 video driver is configured for 256 colour mode.

External Video source may not be correctly connected, Video cables may be crossed from your VCR or Camcorder for example.

Aerial lead may be loose.

The TV card may not be correctly tuned in to the local transmitter. Check on this procedure in the HELP file in the software if this was skipped at first switch on.

Apricot/TV does not start, It may be already up and running but not ‘maximised’. Check on the status bar along the bottom of the screen, also, it may running but behind another application.

Software security

It is regrettable but it is now a requirement to regularly scan your system for software ‘virus’ intrusion. Viruises can cause strange effects and serious damage to both software and sometimes hardware. Even the system BIOS is not immune.

Inability to access drives, destruction of data and even wiping of system BIOS have been experienced by unknowing recipients.

If possible, check all floppy disks of unknown origin with virus scanning software before use, If it was supplied from an unauthorised source, e.g. ‘a friend gave me this great program’, be especially on
