Shooting (All Modes)

Camera takes time to turn on: Delete files or folders.

Shutter-release disabled:

•Memory card is locked, full, or not inserted (020, 22, 26).

•Built-in flash is charging (029).

•Camera is not in focus (028).

•CPU lens with aperture ring attached but aperture not locked at highest f-number (0157).

•Non-CPU lens is attached but camera is not in mode M (0159).

Final photo is larger than area shown in viewfinder: Viewfinder horizontal and vertical frame coverage

is approximately 95%.

Photos are out of focus:

•AF-S or AF-I lens is not attached: use AF-S or AF-I lens or focus manually.

•Camera unable to focus using autofocus: use manual focus or focus lock (046, 48).

•Camera is in manual focus mode: focus manually (048).

Focus does not lock when shutter-release button is pressed halfway: Use AE-L/AF-L button to lock focus

when AF-C focus mode is selected or when photographing moving subjects in AF-A mode.

Can not select focus point:

•eAuto-area selected for AF-area mode: choose another mode (044).

•Press shutter-release button halfway to turn monitor off or activate exposure meters (026).

Can not select AF-area mode: Manual focus selected (042).

Image size can not be changed: Image quality set to NEF (RAW) or NEF (RAW)+JPEG basic (051).

Camera is slow to record photos: Turn noise reduction off (0122).

Randomly-spaced bright pixels (“noise”) appear in photos:

•Choose lower ISO sensitivity or turn noise reduction on (0122).

•Shutter speed is slower than 8s: use noise reduction (0122).

AF-assist illuminator does not light:

•Camera is in l or m mode (030): select another mode.

•AF-assist lamp does not light for continuous-servo autofocus. Choose AF-S. In single-point,

dynamic-area, or 3D-tracking AF, select center focus point (046).

•Off selected for AF-assist (0122).

•Illuminator has turned off automatically.

Illuminator may become hot with continued use;

wait for lamp to cool down.

Some non-CPU lenses can not be used; see Incompatible Accessories and Non-CPU Lenses, below. Approved Memory Cards The following SD memory cards have been tested and approved for use in the D3000. All cards of the designated make and capacity can be used, regardless of speed. Other cards have not been tested.
