Connecting Your D/AC-800

When you make connections,be careful to avoid tensionon either wires or fiber optic cableswhich might causedamageto the connectorsor causethem to pull looselater on. Do not attemptto bend eithercoaxial or optical digital cablesat a sharpangle,asthis may permanentlydamagethem. It is safestto turn ofTthe power of your preampand power amp while making connections,not only for the connectionsyou are making, but to avoid the chanceof disturbing adjacentconnections. As an additional safeguard,turn your preamp'svolume control to minimum before making new connections.

Digital Inputs

TheD/AC-800offersyouthreedigitalinputswith two differentinterfaceoptions:

. Coaxial I: RCAjack - 7SOstandard

. Coaxial 2: RCAjack - 7S0 standard

. Optical: FiberOptic- TOSlink

. Coaxial output connectionsare provided on most high quality CD players. You should use only a good quality cablewhich hasbeendesignedfor digital datatransmission. Cablesdesigned for audio frequenciesare not suitableand will not give you satisfactoryresults.

. TOSlink fiber optic connectionsare alsopopular andare found on most high quality video laserdisc players aswell asmany CD playersand CD transports. Your dealercanassistyou to selectan appropriateoptical cablewith TOSlink connectors.According to the TOSlink standard, you are restricted to TOSlink cablelengths from 0.2m (-8") to 10m(-30').

For most seriousmusic, we believe you will obtain superiorresultswith a high quality coaxial digital input cable, ratherthan the optical TOSlink input. Yau may fmd careful extendedlistening requiredin order to hearthe subtledifferencesbetweenthe two different interfacetechnologies accomodatedby the D/AC-800.

Outputs

Connectthe Analog Output jacks to any line-level input on your preamplifier or evenyour power amplifier if it is equippedwith level controls. Useonly high quality hookupsto preserve detail and clarity. Make sureyour preampis either turnedofTor its volume setto minimum when making theseconnections.

If you have a digital recorder(DAT, MiniDisc, DCC, CD-R), you may connectits recordinput to the DIAC-800'sDigital Output Record jack. This RCA-type connectoris a conduit for the digital datastreamfrom your selecteddigital source,souseonly digital quality cable.

AC Power

Your D/AC-800 hasan IEC standarddetachablepower cord which hasbeenspecially selectedfor its contribution to the soundquality of this unit. Try to connectonly this cord directly to a nearby AC wall outlet and avoid extensioncordsor connectionto accessoryoutlets on your preamp.

If you areconsidering an AC line conditioner, be advisedthat it may not havea positive influence on the soundof your D/AC-800.
