Aktiv-Matrix

Dabei handelt es sich um eine Flüssigkristall-Display-Technik, bei der die Ein-/Aus-Spannung jedes Pixels über Schalttransistoren angesteuert wird. Diese Technik ermöglicht eine hellere und schärfere Anzeige mit einem breiteren Blickwinkel als bei Displays mit passiver Matrix. S. auch unter TFT (Thin Film Transistor, Dünnschichttransistor).

Bildseitenverhältnis

Das Breiten-/Höhen-Verhältnis des aktiven Bereichs eines Displays. Die meisten Monitore haben ein Bildseitenverhältnis von 4:3. Breitbild-Monitore oder -TVs haben ein Bildseitenverhältnis von 16:9 oder 16:10.

Backlight

Die Lichtquelle an der Rückseite eines transmissiven LCD-Schirms. Im LCD-Entwurf kommen heute zwei Techniken zum Einsatz. Die meisten TFT-Flüssigkristall-Displays benutzen CCFLs (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light, Kaltlicht-Kathodenlampen) in Kombination mit einer direkt hinter der Flüssigkristallschicht angeordneten Diffusor-Platte. Neuere Technologien mit Einsatz von Leuchtdioden (LED) befinden sich noch im Entwicklungsstadium.
