A

Aspect ratio
Aspect ratio refe rs to the length t o height ratio of
TV screens. The r atio of a standard T V is 4:3, while
the ratio of a high-de finition or wide T V is 16:9.
The letter box allows yo u to enjoy a picture wi th a
wider perspect ive on a standard 4 :3 screen.

JPEG
A very common digita l still picture fo rmat. A still-
picture data compr ession system pro posed by the
Joint Photographic E xpert Grou p, which features
small decrease in ima ge quality in spite of i ts high
compression ratio. F iles are recognized by t heir file
extension ‘. jpg’ or ‘.jpe g.’

MP3
A file format with a sound d ata compression
system. MP3 is the ab breviation of Motio n Picture
Experts Gro up 1 (or MPEG-1) Audio Layer 3. W ith
the MP3 format, one CD -R or CD-RW can co ntain
about 10 times more dat a than a regular CD.

PBC
Playback Control. A sy stem where you navi gate
through a Video CD/Su per VCD with on-scr een
menus that are record ed onto the disc. You can
enjoy interactive p layback and search .
Progressive scan
The progressive sca n displays twice the n umber of
frames per second tha n in an ordinary T V system. It
offers higher pict ure resolution an d quality.

Main unit

The buttons on this unit do not work.
Disconnect this product from the power •
outlet for a few minutes, then connect again.
No reaction to the remote con trol.
Connect this produ ct to the power outle t.•
Point the remote control a t the IR sensor •
located on the front pan el of this product .
Insert the batt eries correc tly.•
Insert new batte ries in the remote co ntrol.•

Picture

No picture.
See the TVs user manual o n how to select •
the correct input o n the TV. Change the T V
channel until you see the P hilips screen.
If you have turned on the pr ogressive scan •
setting or change the T V system set ting,
switch back to default m ode: 1) Press to
open the disc compar tment. 2) Press the
Numeric button ‘1’ (for progressive scan) or
the Numeric button’3’ (for TV system).

Sound

No audio output from the TV.
Ensure that the audio c ables are connect ed to •
the audio input of the T V.
Assign the audio inpu t of the TV to the •
corresponding vid eo input. See the T V user
manual for details.
No audio output from the loud speakers of the
audio device (stereo system/amplifier/receiver).
Ensure that the audio c ables are connect ed to •
the audio input of the audi o device.
Turn on the audio device to its co rrect audio •
input source.

Play

The disc cannot be played.
The disc is badly scratc hed, deformed, or d irty. •
Replace or clean the disc .
Use the correct disc fo rmat or file format . •
The aspect ratio of the screen is not aligned with
the TV display setting.
The aspect ratio i s fixed on the disc.•
