Gama

A iluminância do ecrã como função da tensão do vídeo segue aproximadamente uma função de potência matemática do sinal de vídeo de entrada, sendo que o seu expoente é designado por gama.

Escala de cinzentos

Uma escala acromática que varia do preto, passando por uma série de cinzentos sucessivamente mais claros até chegar ao branco. Essa série pode ser constituída por passos, que parecem estar equidistantes uns dos outros. Se o conversor analógico/digital for de 8 bits, então, o monitor pode apresentar no máximo 28 = 256 níveis. Para um monitor policromático, R.G.B., cada cor tem 256 níveis Assim, o total de cores que é possível apresentar é 256x256x256 = 16,7 milhões.

Tonalidade (Hue)

O principal atributo de uma cor que a distingue de outras cores. Por exemplo, uma cor pode ter uma tonalidade verde, amarela ou violeta. As cores definidas como tendo tonalidade são conhecidas por cores cromáticas. O branco, o preto e o cinzento não têm tonalidade.
