Cleaning is required every 25 hours of op-
eration or annually, whichever comesfirst.
SLoosen and remove the 2 muffler cover
screws.
SRemovet he muffler cover (cover snaps off
muffler body).
SRemove muffler diffuser and spark arrest-
ing screen assembly. Notice the orienta-
tion of these parts for reassembling.
SClean the spark arrestor screenwith awire
brush. Replace screenif breaksare found.S
Replace any broken or cracked muffler
parts.
SReinstall diffuser and spark arrestor screen
assembly with round holes facing up.
SReinstall muffler cover and 2 screws (7-8
ft/lbs).

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS

Your carburetor is equipped with limiter
caps. Carburet or adjustment is a compli-
cated task. We recommend that you take
your unit to an Authorized Service Dealer.
Damagewi ll occur if you turn the needles be-
yond the limiter stops.

BAR MAINTENANCE

If your saw cuts to one side, has to be forced
through the cut, or been run with an improper
amount of bar lubrication it may be neces-
saryto service your bar. Awornbar will dam-
age your chain and make cutting difficult.
After each use, ensure ON/ST OP switch is
int he STOP position, then c lean all sawdust
from the guide bar and sprocket hole.
Tomaintain guide bar:
SMove ON/STOP switch to the STOP posi-
tion.
SLoosen and remove chain brake nuts and
chain brake. Remove barand chai nfrom
saw.
SClean the oil holes and bar groove aft er
each 5 hours of operation.

SAdd lubricant to sprocket hole after each
use.
SBurring of guide bar rails is a normal
process of rail wear. Remove these burrs
with a flat file.
SWhenrail top i s uneven, use a flat file to re-
store square edges and sides.

Replace guide bar when the groove is worn,
the guide bar is bent or crack ed, or when
excess heating or burring ofthe rails occurs.
If replacement is necessary, use only the
guide bar specified for your saw in the repair
parts list or on the decal located on the c hain
saw.

CHAIN SHARPENING

Chain sharpening isa complicated task that
requires special tools . We recommended
you refer chain sharpening to a professional
chain sharpener.

IGNITION TIMING

Ignition timing is fixed andnonadjustable.

SPARKPLUG

The spark plug should be replaced each
year to ensure the engine starts easier and
runs better.
SLoosen 3 screws on cylinder cover.S
Remove the cylinder cover.
SPull off the spark plug boot.
SRemove spark plug from cylinder anddis-
card.
SReplace with Champion RCJ--7Y spark
plug and tighten with a 3/4 inch socket
wrench (10-12 ft/lbs). Spark plug gap
should be 0.025 inches.
SReinstall the spark plug boot.S
Reinstall
the cylinder cover and 3 sc rews (15-20 in/
lbs).

STORAGE

WARNING: Stop engine and allow
to cool, and secure the unit before storing or
transporting in a vehicle. Store unit and fuel
in an area where fuel vapors cannot reac h
sparks or open flames from water heaters,
electric motors or switc hes, furnaces, etc.
Storeunit with all guards in place. Posit ion so
that any sharp object cannot accidentally
cause injury to passersby. Store the unit out
of reach of children.
SBefore storing, drain all fuel from theunit.
Start engine and allow to run until itstops.
SClean the unit before storing. Pay particu-
larat tention to the air i ntake area, keeping
it free of debris. Use a mild detergent and
sponge to clean the plastic surfac es.
SDonot store the unit or fuel in a closed area
where fuel vapors can reach sparks or an
