FUELING ENGINE

WARNING: Remov e fuel cap slow-
ly when refueling.
HELPFUL TIP
Toobtain the correct oil mix
ratio, pour 3.2 ounces of
2--cycle synthetic oil into
onegallon of f resh gas.
This engine is certified to operate on un-
leadedgas oline. Before operation, gasoline
mustbe mix edw ith agood quality s ynthetic
2-cycle air-cooled engine oil designed to be
mixedat a r atio of 40:1. Poulan/WeedEater
brands ynthetic oil is recommended. A40:1
ratiois obtained by mixing 3.2 ounces (95ml)
ofoil with 1 gallon(4 liters)of unleaded gaso-
line. Included withthis saw is a 3.2 ounce (95
ml)container of P oulan/WeedEat er brand syn-
thetic oil. Pour th eentir e contents of this con-
tainer into 1 gallon (4 liters) of gasoline to
achieve the proper fuel mixture.
DO NOT USE automotive or marine oil.
Theseoils will c ause engine damage. When
mixingfuel follow theinst ructions printed on
the container. Always read and follow the
safety rules listed under HANDLE FUEL
WITHCAUTION.

BAR AND CHAIN LUBRICATION

The bar and chain require continuous lubri-
cation. Lubrication is provided by the auto-
matic oiler systemwhen the oil tank is kept
filled.Lac k of oil will quickly ruin the bar and
chain. Too little oil will cause overheating
shownby s moke coming from the chain and/
or discoloration of the bar.
Infreez ing weather oil will thicken, making it
necessary to thin bar and chain oil with a
smallamount (5 to 10%) of #1 D iesel Fuel or
kerosene. Bar and chain oil must be free
flowingforthe oil system topump enough oil
for adequate lubrication.
GenuinePoulanRbar and chain oil is recom-
mended to protect your unit against exces-
sive wear from heat and friction. PoulanR
oil resists high temperature thinning.
IfPoulanRbar and c hain oil is not available,
use a good grade SAE 30 oil.
SNeveruse was te oilf or bar andc hainlubri-
cation.
SAlways stop the engine before removing
the oil cap.

IMPORTANT

Experience indicates that alcohol--blended
fuels (c alled gasohol or using ethanol or meth -
anol)can at tract moisture which leads t o sepa-
ration and formation of acids durin g storage.
Acidic gas can damage the fuelsy stem of an
enginew hile in storage. Toavoid engine prob-
lems, the fuel s ystem should be e mptied before
storage for 30 days or longer. Drain the gas
tank, start the engine and let it run until the fuel
lines and carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuel
next season. See STORAGE section for addi -
tional information.
CHAIN BRAKE
Ensure chain brake is disengaged by pulling
thefront hand guard bac k toward the front han-
dleas far as pos sible. The chain brake mus t be
disengaged before cutting with the saw.
WARNING: The c hain must not
move when the engine runs at idle speed. If
thechain mov es at idle speed refer to CAR-
BURETOR ADJUSTMENT within this
manual.Avoid contac t with the muffler.A hot
mufflerc an cause serious burns.
To stop the engine move the ON/STOP
switch to the STOP position.
Tostar t the engine hold the saw firmly on the
ground as illustrated. Make sure the chain is
