IMPORTANTPOINTS
SWatchout for spring poles. Spring poles
are small size limbs whic h can whip to-

SBe alert for spring back from any
branches that are bent or under pres-

SFrequently clear branches out of the
way to avoid trippingo verthem.
LIMBING
SLimb a treeonly after it is cut down.
SLeave the larger limbs underneath the
felled tree to support the tree as you
work.
SStart at the base of the felledtree and
work toward the top, cutting branches
andlimbs. Remove smalllimbs with one
cut.
SKeep tree between you and the chain.
SRemove larger branches with the cut-
ting techniques described BUCKING
WITHOUT A SUPPORT.
SAlwaysuse an overcut to cut small and
freely hanging limbs. Undercutting
could cause limbs to fall and pinch the
saw.
PRUNING
WARNING : Limitpruning to limbs
shoulder height or below. Do not cut if
branchesare higher than your shoulder.
Get a professionalto do the job.
SMake your first cut 1/3 of the way
through the bottom ofthe limb. This
cutwill mak e the limb sag so that it falls
easily on thesecond cut.
SNext make a second cut all the way
through the limb.
SFinishthe pruningoperation by using
an overcut so that the stump of the
limbprotrudes 1 to 2 inches (3--5 cm)
