GUIDE BAR AND CHAIN OIL
Thebar and chain require lubrication. The
chain oiler provides lubrication to the
chainandguidebar.Besuretofillthebar
oiltank before each cuttingsession. Lack
of oil will quicklyruin the bar and chain.
Toolittle oil will ca use overheating shown
by smoke coming from the chain and/or
discoloration of the bar. For maximum
guide bar and chain life, we recommend
youuse Poulan chainsaw bar oil.If Pou-
lan bar oil is not available,you may usea
good grade SAE 30 oil untily ou area ble
toobtain Pou lan brand. Use a funnel to fill
thetank. Replace oil cap securely. Check
oil level after every 15 minutes of opera-
tion.
CHAIN BRAKE
Ensurechain brake is disengaged by pull-
ing the fronthan d guardbac k towardthe
fronthandle as far as possible. The chain
brake must be disengaged before cutting
with the saw.
STOPPINGYOUR SAW
SRelease the triggerswitch.
SIfmotor does not stop, disconnect the
extensioncord. Discontinueu se of the
unituntilit has been repaired by an au-
thorizedservice dealer.
STARTINGYOUR SAW
1. Connect the saw to a power source
using the proper size extension
cord;see SELECT AN EXTENSION
CORD).
2. Grip both handles firmly.
3. Push and hold the trigger lock--out
buttonwith your right hand thumb.
4. Squeeze and hold the triggerswitch.
CHAIN BRAKE
WARNING: If th e brake band is
worntoo thin it may breakwhen the chain
brake is triggered. With a broken brake
band, the chain brake will not stop the
chain. The chain brake must be replaced
ifany pa rtis worn to lessthan 0.020(0.5
mm) thick. Repairs on a chain brake
should be made by your authorized ser-
vice dealer.Take your unit to the place of
purchaseor to the nearest authorized ser-
vice dealer.
SThis saw is equipped with a chain
brake.The brake is designed to stop the
chain if kickbackoccurs.
SThe inertia--activatedchain brake is ac-
tivatedif the front hand guardis pushed
forward, either manually (by hand) or
automatically (bysud den movement).
SIfthe brake is already activated, it is dis-
engaged by pulling th e front hand guard
back toward the front handle as faras
possible.
SWhen cutting with the saw, the chain
brake must be disengaged.

CAUTION: The chain brake must be
checked several times daily. The motor
must be running when performing this
procedure. Thisis the only instance when
the saw should be placed on theground
with the motorrunning.
Place the saw on firm ground. Grip the
rearhandle with your right hand and the
front handle with your left hand.
Squeeze triggerswitch and allow motor
to reach full speed. Activate the chain
brakeb y turning your leftwrist against the
hand guard without releasing your grip
aroundthe front handle. The chain should
stop immediately.
Inertiaactivating function control
WARNING : Whenperforming the
followingprocedure, the motor must not
be running and the saw must be un-
plugged fromthe power source.
Gripthe rear handle with your right hand
andthe front handle with your left hand.
Holdthe chain saw approximately 14(35
cm) above a stump or other wooden sur-
face. Release your gripon the front han-
dleand use the weight of the saw to let the
tipof the guide bar fall forward and contact
thestump. Whenthe tip of the bar hits the
stump,the brake should activate.
