Bländarvärde

Bländaren är en öppning som släpper in ljus i kameran. Bländarens hus innehåller tunna metallplattor som öppnas och stängs, gör bilden bredare eller förminskar den och kontrollerar mängden ljus som tränger in i kameran. Storleken på bländaren är nära besläktad med bildens ljusstyrka, ju större bländare, desto ljusare bild; ju mindre bländare, desto mörkare bild. Observera att ju högre bländarvärde, desto mindre bländarstorlek. Exempelvis är en bländare som ställs in på 5.6 större än en bländare som ställs in på 11.

Slutarhastighet

Slutarhastigheten, som är en viktig faktor när det gäller ljusstyrkan för en bild, är den tid det tar att öppna och stänga slutaren. En långsam slutarhastighet tillåter mer ljus att tränga in. Om alla övriga omständigheter är statiska, blir fotot ljusare, men snabbt rörliga motiv kan bli suddiga. Å andra sidan tillåter en snabb slutarhastighet mindre ljus att tränga in. Bilderna blir mörkare, men motiv i rörelse tas med högre skärpa.
