Užrakto greitis parodo, kiek laiko trunka užrakto atidarymas ir uždarymas, tai svarbus nuotraukų ryškumo faktorius, kadangi jis kontroliuoja šviesos kiekį, kuris praeina per diafragmą, prieš pasiekdamas vaizdo jutiklį.

Didesnis užrakto greitis leidžia sutrumpinti šviesos įleidimo laiką, todėl nuotraukos tampa tamsesnės ir geriau fiksuojami judantys objektai.
