Adjust Pictures on a Wide-Screen HDTV

HD-formatted programs have a wide format, similar to the format used in movies. If your HDTV has a wide screen, it’s perfectly suited to show HD programs.

However, non-HD programs do not use a wide format and are unable to fill the wide screen. For this reason, the 8000HD automatically adds bars to the sides of non-HD programs. This display setting is called Normal or “Pillarbox.” However, you can select from two other settings: Stretch and Zoom. These two settings remove the bars and fill the wide screen with the picture.

Note: Stretch mode stretches the picture and removes the bars (letterbox bars or pillarbox bars) from the screen.

To select a setting other than Normal, cycle through the selections Normal, Stretch, and Zoom as described in the picture to the right.

Normal or “Pillarbox” Normal or “Pillarbox” display is the setting that the 8000HD automatically uses. With a Normal display, bars appear on the sides of pictures broadcast in a non-HD format.
