Using your VAIO computer

Using the WiFi protected access (WPA)

WPA is a wireless security enhancement that allows you to transfer data in a highly secure way*.

* For more information on the access point, refer to the documentation that came with your access point.

To use WPA on your computer, proceed as follows:

1Turn on the Wireless (VGN-A series) or Wireless LAN (PCG-K series) switch. On VGN-A series, the Wireless Device Switch dialog box appears.

Select the Enable 2.4 GHz Wireless LAN check box and deselect the Enable Bluetooth Device check box, then click the OK button.

2Right-click the network icon on the taskbar displaying Wireless Network Connection.

3Select View available network connections.

The Wireless Network Properties dialog box appears.

4Select the wireless network to which you want to connect.

5Fill in the Network key.

The network key should be at least 8 characters long. You can choose whatever you want.

6Fill in exactly the same Network key again, for confirmation.

7Click Connect.

The connection is established.

In Ad-hoc mode, WPA security cannot be used (specifications in the standard itself).

!

In France, only certain channels are legally allowed when using WLAN outdoors. For more information, see the Wireless LAN Regulations.
