Setting up Internet, email and MMS

With your phone you can access the Internet, send and receive email, and send and receive MMS messages. To do this you need to set up Internet accounts.

Setting up accounts

You access the Internet using an Internet Service provider (ISP). You need to set up an Internet account to do any of the following:

Access the Internet.

Send and receive email messages.

Send and receive MMS messages.

Set up and use a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

There are four types of Internet accounts:

Data – uses a packet data connection, either on a 3G or a GSM/GPRS network. You are charged for the amount of data you download or send.

Dial up (CSD or HSCSD) – establishes a circuit- switched data connection. You are charged for the length of time you are connected to the Internet.

Bluetooth PAN – uses a Bluetooth Personal Area Network profile to connect to a device (for example a computer) that is connected to the Internet.

WLAN – uses a wireless LAN to connect to the Internet.

Important: To use the browser or send and receive email messages you must include the Internet account in an Internet group account, see Group accounts on page 106. To use MMS, you must NOT include the Internet account for MMS in a group account.

You can create new accounts automatically or manually. The Internet account may already be set up when you buy the phone.

Before setting up

From your service provider, you should have received all the details about the accounts that you have to enter, for example the email account name and password.

Setting up accounts automatically

A convenient way of setting up an account is to ask your service provider to send you an auto setup message. Contact your service provider to find out if such a service is available. You can also visit www.sonyericsson.com/support where you find setup
