Whole Home Installation: TiVo DVRs require one of the following networkin g
connections and a digital sign al via a CableCARD
(or HD antenna).
Ethernet:
An RJ-45 Ethernet connec tion at all Whole Home-ena bled product locations .
MoCA enabled Coax:
MoCA injects Internet con nectivity into a home's coax ne twork allowing
each DVR to operate without an Ether net or Wireless connec tion.
Coax based networking req uire the feature to be enabled on the four t uner
DVR. To enable MoCA start at Tivo Cent ral > Settings > Network & Ph one >
Change network setting s > Enable MoCA. See screen shot below.
1. Whole Home “Homerun” configuration (t ypical) requires a coaxial
connection at all Whole Home- enabled product locat ions and access
to the open port on the networ k router. This configuration is used
when the router/switch is in a different l ocation than the DVR.
This configuration also requires t he use of an additional adapter.

2. Whole Home “Daisychain” configuration requires an Ethernet
connection at the location of a four-tuner DVR and Ethernet and/or
Coaxial at all other Whole Home- enabled locations. This config uration
is used when the router/switch is the same l ocation as the four tuner DVR.
CableCARD options:
To decrypt cable channels with a t hird-party box, ca ble companies require
the use of a CableCARD. Two variations of this card ex ist, a Single-stream
CableCARD (S-CARD) and a Mul ti-stream CableCARD (M -CARD). CableCARD
compatibility varies by TiVo mod el; see chart below.
OBTAINING A CABLECARD:
M-CARDs are available in one of two ways:
Pick up:
Customers can pick up an M- CARD from a local cable of fice. Not all offices
stock CableCARDs, so inst allers should call ahead to verif y inventory. The pick
up option is available from any cable prov ider that supports s elf-installation.
Cable company installation:
Customers may opt to have a CableCAR D delivered as a part of their ca ble instal-
lation order in some regions. This of ten happens when someone ha s a new line of

TiVoPro Tip:
Some cable companies also allow th e account holders to authorize a custo m installer to
pick up a CableCARD on their behalf. Chec k with your local cable company for de tails.
