OPERATION

You can set the thermostat control knob to any comfort level between HI and LO. The thermostat will gradually modulate the heat output and flame height from higher to lower settings, or pilot, in order to maintain the comfort level you select. The ideal comfort setting will vary by household depending upon the amount of space to be heated, the output of the central heating system, etc.

Note: Selecting the HI setting will cause the burner to remain on without modu- lating down in most cases.

MANUAL LIGHTING

PROCEDURE

1.Follow steps 1 through 5 under Light- ing Instructions, page 14.

2.Depress control knob and light pilot with match.

3.Keep control knob pressed in for 30 seconds after lighting pilot. After 30 seconds, release control knob. Now follow step 8 under Lighting Instruc- tions, page 14.

WARNING: If you do not fol- low these instructions exactly, a fire or explosion may result caus- ing property damage, personal injury, or loss of life.

A.This appliance has a pilot which must be lighted by hand. When lighting the pilot, follow these instructions exactly.

B.BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around the appliance area for gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS

Do not try to light any appliance.

Do not touch any electric switch; do not use any phone in your building.

Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions.

If you cannot reach your gas sup- plier, call the fire department.

C.Use only your hand to push in or turn the gas control knob. Never use tools. If the knob will not push in or turn by hand, don’t try to repair it, call a qualified service technician or gas supplier. Force or attempted repair may result in a fire or explosion.

D.Do not use this appliance if any part has been under water. Immediately call a qualified service technician to inspect the appliance and to replace any part of the control system and any gas control which has been un- der water.

LIGHTING

INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING: You must operate this fireplace with the fireplace screen in place. Make sure fire- place screen is installed before running fireplace.

NOTICE: During initial operation of new fireplace, burning logs will give off a paper-burning smell. Orange flame will also be present. Open window to vent smell. Operate fireplace on HI position to burn off odor. This will only last a few hours.

1.STOP! Read the safety information, column 2.

2.Make sure equipment shutoff valve is fully open.

3. Turn control knob clockwise Clockwise to the OFF position (see Figure 30).

4.Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. Then smell for gas, including near the floor. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow “B” in the safety in- formation, column 2. If you don’t smell gas, go to the next step.

Note: If running fireplace for first time, there will be air in gas line. You may need to press in control knob for 30 seconds or longer. This will allow air to bleed from the gas system.
