ASSEMBLY

Gas Spring

The gas spring can be secured to 3 different locations along the side or back of the left col- umn. Each location offers a different range of motion for the mortising head. In the instruc- tions below, we will cover only the side loca- tion. Further explanation will follow in the Adjustments section.

Position depth stop to touch table and secure with lock knob before indexing the hand lever. The head may drop sud- denly, causing injury.

1.Adjust the depth stop lever until it touches the table surface.

2.Lift the head using the hand lever. If neces- sary, index the lever (Figure 12) to make multiple turns of the hub so the head moves to its highest elevation. Be sure to position the depth stop rod so that it touches the base of the machine and lock it in place before indexing the handle. This ensures the weight of the head casting is sup- ported while adjustments are made.

3.The gas spring ends snap into place over the ball-end junction. It may be necessary to compress the gas spring slightly to align sockets in gas springs with ball-end junc- tion. See Figure 13.
