Defrosting

Defrosting

,

The refrigerator compartment evaporator is automatically defrosted every time the compressor stops. The water drains out through a channel

(Fig. 20) into a bowl located at the base of the back of the appliance, where it evaporates.

In the Manual background compartment, the frost must be removed using the plastic scraper provided whenever a thick layer accumulates (approx. 4 mm). Do not use metal tools to remove the frost – they can cause serious damage.

Is is not necessary to switch the appliance off or take the food out of the compartment during this operation. If a thick layer of ice forms, the appliance must be completely defrosted.

Proceed as follows:

set the thermostat dial to the «O» position or unplug the appliance;

wrap the deep-frozen food in several sheets of newspaper and put in a cool place;

leave the door open and, if you wish to speed up defrosting times, place a bowl of very hot water inside

the Manual background compartment (with a sheet of cardboard underneath);

soak up the water that collects on the bottom with a sponge and dry the walls thoroughly;

reset the thermostat dial to the required position or plug the appliance in again. After running for two or three hours, it will be ready to store deep-frozen foods again.

To prevent the water overflowing and dripping onto the food inside, periodically clean the defrost water drain hole in the middle of the refrigerator compartment channel (Fig. 20), using a small flexible rod.
