Problem: I’m having a communication problem with Platelike over FDDI.

Solution: Use the following solutions:

￿Verify that you are running firmware version 1.3.28 or above. In the CLI, enter the ‘vsys’ command. If not, upgrade firmware on the switch. Refer to HiSpeed’s User Manual for further instructions on how to upgrade the switch.

￿Verify that all IP addresses, subnet masks, and gateways are set correctly on the VLANs and any attached devices.

Problem: Cannot ping another VLAN over FDDI.

Solution: Use the following solutions:

￿Verify that all IP addresses, subnet masks, and gateways are set correctly on the VLANs and any attached devices.

￿Verify that all routes are learned using ‘vir’. If not, ensure that RIP is active on all VLANs.

Problem: The FDDI port does not wrap or unwrap (go back into a ring) under high traffic loads when the cable is removed/attached.

Solution: This is a known issue and currently there is no fix is available. Resetting the switch will re-initialize the switch back into the ring.

Problem: FDDI performance is slower from FDDI through Ethernet than from Ethernet through FDDI.

Solution: There is about 15% difference in the FDDI to Ethernet performance. This is likely the result of employing ARL lookups in software, rather than hardware. There are currently no plans to improve the FDDI through Ethernet performance.

Problem: I cannot ping to some stations via FDDI.

Solution: There was a problem in the Hardware Type within the arp packet generated by the HS150. This problem was fixed with 1.4.4. Upgrade your switch the latest version of code. Refer to HiSpeed’s User Manual on further instructions on how to upgrade the switch.
