Turning on the server

Statement 13:

DANGER

Overloading a branch circuit is potentially a fire hazard and a shock hazard under certain conditions. To avoid these hazards, ensure that your system electrical requirements do not exceed branch circuit protection requirements. Refer to the information that is provided with your device for electrical specifications.

After you plug one end of each server power cord into the power-supply outlets on the rear of the server and the other end of each power cord into an electrical outlet, the server can start in any of the following ways:

vYou can press the power-control button on the front of the server to start the server.

Notes:

1.You can install a circular disk over the power-control button to prevent accidental manual power-off. This disk, known as the power-control button shield, comes with your server.

2.After you plug the power cords of your server into the electrical outlets, wait approximately 20 seconds before pressing the power-control button. During this time, the ISMP is initializing; therefore, the power-control button does not respond.

vIf the server is turned on and a power failure occurs, the server will start automatically when power is restored.

vIf ac power is present, the server is in Standby mode, and the server is connected to an Advanced System Management (ASM) interconnect network that contains at least one system with an optional Remote Supervisor Adapter installed, the server can be turned on from the Remote Supervisor Adapter user interface.

vIf ac power is present, the server is in Standby mode, and an optional Remote Supervisor Adapter is installed in the server, the server can be turned on from the Remote Supervisor Adapter user interface.

vWhen you plug in your server for the first time, the Wake on LAN feature can turn on the server.

vIf your server was previously turned on, it must be properly placed in Standby mode for the Wake on LAN feature to turn on the server.

vIf your operating system supports the Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) option and the PXE option is enabled through the Planar Ethernet PXE/DHCP menu choice under Start Options on the Configuration/Setup Utility program menu, the integrated Gigabit Ethernet controller can turn on the server.
