Page 17

To see the configuration information for most IBM computers, press F1 during startup when the IBM graphic displays in the upper right corner of the screen. When you have finished reviewing the information, save the changes and exit.

Step 9. Installing the CD-RW drive software

The User’s Guide and Software CD contains two software applications for use with the CD writing functions of your CD-RW drive:

vIBM RecordNow

vIBM Drive Letter Access (DLA)

There is another application that will be useful in some circumstances.

vUDF Reader

For more information on these applications, see “Software description” on page 2.

To install these applications, do the following:

1.Insert the User’s Guide and Software CD into your CD-RW drive.

2.If the CD starts automatically, follow the on-screen instructions. If it does not start automatically, do the following:

a.Click Start->Runand type e:\engage.bat where e is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.

b.Click OK.

3.Select your language.

4.Select the application you want to install.

5.Follow the on-screen instructions.

Using CD-R and CD-RW discs

The CD-RW drive can write to both CD-R and CD-RW discs. CD-RW discs can be erased and reused many times, while CD-R discs can be written to only once.

Carefully handle and clean discs, especially writable media types such as CD-R and CD-RW discs, so that they remain readable. You can prolong the life of your discs by using the following precautions:

vAlways store CD-ROMs in their original packaging

vAlways store CD-ROMs out of direct sunlight

vAlways store CD-ROMs away from direct heat sources

vRemove CD-ROMs from the computer when not in use

vCheck CD-ROM for cracks BEFORE each use

vDO NOT force CD-ROMs into the computer/packaging

vDO NOT bend or flex CD-ROMs

Notes:

1.CD-R discs are playable on most audio CD players. CD-RW discs are playable only on some audio CD players.

2.Some consumer audio players will only play discs recorded on media labelled specifically for audio.

3.CD-R media is rated by write-speed. For 48x write mode, 48x media is required. For best results, limit write-speed to the media speed rating. The Record Now Software included in the option kit will allow you to limit the maximum recording speed.
