Installing the InfiniPath and OpenFabrics RPMs

Linux distributions of InfiniPath and OpenFabrics software are installed from binary RPMs. RPM is a Linux packaging and installation tool used by Red Hat, SUSE, and CentOS. There are multiple interdependent RPM packages that make up the InfiniPath and OpenFabrics software.

The OpenFabrics kernel module support is now part of the InfiniPath RPMs. This kernel module includes support for kernel-based protocols such as IPoIB, SRP, the multicast communications manager, and the subnet administration agent.

Programs that incorporate the user IB verbs interfaces, such as diagnostics, benchmarks, verbs-based MPIs (for example, Intel MPI Version 3.0), and SDP sockets must have RPMs installed in the OpenFabrics directories. See Appendix C RPM Descriptions” for a complete description of the RPMs’ contents.

Each set of RPMs uses a build identifier xxx and a distribution identifier yyy. The distribution identifiers for this release are rhel4 and sles10. The RPM distribution identifiers are listed in Table 5-3with the associated operating systems.

NOTE:

RPMs contain config files. Your current config files will not be overwritten when the new RPMs are installed. New config files contain the suffix .rpmnew and can be found in the /etc/sysconfig directory. Check the new files to see if there is anything you want to add to your standard config files.
