Examining Network Activity

After you have installed the Sun Quad FastEthernet PCI adapter, but before booting the system, verify the installation by examining the network interfaces with the OpenBoot PROM watch-net-allcommand.

Make sure that the interfaces are connected to an active network.

●Examine network activity and incoming network packets by typing watch-net-all at the ok prompt.

The watch-net-allcommand monitors network traffic on all network interfaces in the system. In the example below, the watch-net-allcommand tests all four of the adapter’s interfaces, two of which are connected to a network.

In addition to testing the adapter’s interfaces, the watch-net-allcommand may also test other network devices on the system.

Note –The network speed is the same as the speed of the network that your system is connected. See the section “Forcing Network Speed Between 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps” on page 16 for more detailed information about speed selection.
