3 Internet Access

DHCP or Static, IPoA, PPPoE, and PPPoA are different connection modes that use different protocols to make the initial session between your ADSL Wireless Router and the ISP’s equipment.

The connection type you need to choose is dependent upon the settings assigned by your ISP. It varies with ISPs as well as the service you applied for. If you are not sure which connection type you should use, contact your ISP to obtain the correct information.

3.DHCP or Static mode

The DHCP connection type is the default setting of this ADSL Wireless Router. Leave this setting on the column according to the following conditions: Your ISP uses DHCP to assign IP address when you connect to your ISP.

Some ISP might distribute unique IP address for you to access the internet. In this way, you have to enter the IP address, subnet mask, Gateway and DNS provided by the ISP.

4.PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet)

Choose this setting according to your ISP to use PPPoE as the connection mode. You can find more information on RFC 2516.

PPPoE is a dial-up connection type provided by some ISPs. It is a cost–effective way for a user to access the internet using this connection type. If your ISP provides PPPoE connectivity, you should choose this item from the drop-down list. Note: if you select PPPoE mode, please remove any existing PPPoE applications on any PCs on your LAN.
