Hardware Installation

1.Turn off your computer and any attached devices, such as printers or external drives.

2.Locate the serial port on the back of your computer and connect it with the ser- ial cable on the back of the external modem.

Windows Based Systems: It may be marked COM, SERIAL, MODEM or RS-232. Do not select AUX, GAME or PARALLEL port. If you are not familiar with the location of these ports, your computer uses icons to mark its ports or there are no markings on any of the ports, please refer to your systems “Owner’s Guide” for detailed instructions. The Viking external modem comes standard with a 9-pin connector on its serial cable to correspond with the majority of today’s systems. If you computer has a 25-pin serial port, you will need to purchase a 9-pin male to 25-pin to female adapter.

Mac Based Systems: Locate the external modem port on the back of your machine. Plug the corresponding connector on the serial cable into this port.
