not use any force to push down, the cover should be in the correct vertical position and easily mate with the keyboard. As mentioned previously, there are catches on the left side of the keyboard that keep the cover snuggly mated to the keyboard after you slide it all the way closed, so you will have to use a little extra force to complete the final part of the sliding action.
