Appendix C Updating the Software

The following software can be updated:

•AXIS NetPilot configuration software

•AXIS Print Utility for Windows

•AXIS Print Utility for OS/2

•The AXIS 540/640 print server software held in Flash Memory

•The axinstall script

•The AXIS MIB file

All software updates are free of charge.

Obtaining the Updated Software

Over the Internet You may wish to check the Axis WWW Home Page at http://www.axis.com/, where you can down-load the latest versions of the software utilities.

Anonymous FTP Files and information are also available through anonymous ftp: log in

to ftp.axis.com and go to the /pub/axis directory.

Flash Memory The AXIS 540/640 server software is stored in Flash Memory. This memory is provided by a silicon chip that like any other ROM device, retains data content even after power is removed.However, Flash Memory is unique because it allows its data to be erased and re-written. This means that you can install software updates for your AXIS 540/640 as soon as they become available, without having to replace any parts. The new software is simply loaded into the AXIS 540/640 over the network.
