Appendix C : Updating the Software

Upgrading over the To upgrade over the network using FTP you will need the following:

Network using FTP

• The file with the new print server software. The name of this file

is in the form product.version, e.g. 540_524.exe for software release 5.24. You may use any of the aforementioned methods to obtain the new file.

• The AXIS 540/640 must also be installed on the network with TCP/IP as described in Basic Set Up for TCP/IP, on page 25.

Follow the procedures below to upgrade the AXIS 540/640:

1.Log in to the AXIS 540/640 with the command

ftp <host name> where <host name> is the name assigned in your system host table.

2.You will be prompted for user id and password. Use the user id root, which has the default password pass (root the user id with the highest priority).

3.Issue the command binary to change to binary transfer mode.

4.Issue the command put <software name> flash where

<software name> is the name of the new print server software, e.g. 540.524.

5.Wait for the Flash load to finish. This normally takes 1 to 4 minutes. The unit will then automatically restart with the new print server software.

Caution M❏ Be careful not to interrupt the file transfer. If the transfer is interrupted the AXIS 540/640 may have to be re-initialized by your dealer.

6.Log out using the command quit, bye or exit depending on your FTP version.

Notes: ❏ Should you encounter any problem that prevents a successful upgrade over your network, it may become necessary to perform the flash loading operation via the parallel port, LPT1. In this instance, you are advised to contact your dealer, or Axis via the
