RS-485 COM port

The RS-485 COM Port supports several operational modes:

Generic TCP/IP - enables the video server to receive status/data and send com- mands via TCP/IP

Generic HTTP - enables the video server to receive status/data and send com- mands via HTTP

Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) - for controlling a PTZ device. A PTZ device requires a driver for its function. Drivers can be obtained from www.axis.com. Please see page 25 for information on how to connect PTZ devices.

While the RS-485 can be used to connect a PTZ device, it is necessary that the device’s protocol supports ‘daisy chaining’ in order to connect and control more than one camera (up to four).

Chaining the units allows them to share a single serial port. The protocol then decides which unit to address and sends commands to it specifically. The diagram below explains how the devices are connected.
