Listening through an external AV amplifier

In order to enjoy surround sound from DVD discs, you'll need to connect this unit to an AV amplifier using an optical (TOSLINK) fiber cable (supplied with PDV-LC20 European model). After connecting up, make sure that you set up the audio output correctly from the setup menu—see pages 43, 44.

Note that when an optical fiber cable is connected the CD anti-shock system does not work. Take care not to jolt the player to prevent it from skipping.

Before making or changing the connections, switch off the power and disconnect the power cord from the AC outlet.

Tips for using the digital output

You can also use the digital output to hook up this player to a digital recorder (MD, CD-R, DAT, etc.), or two channel amplifier with an optical digital input. In this case, make sure that you set up the audio output so that only PCM audio is output.
