Assembly and Installation
For further clarification, please see back of user guide for corresponding drawings.
1.The gate must be installed in a structurally sound opening. Never install between two railings or two stair posts. Ensure mounting surface (wall, doorframe, stair post, etc.) is strong, rigid and is smooth, clean and grease free.
If mounting onto brick, drywall or other surfaces, an optional gate installation kit, wooden board mounted to the surface or additional hardware may be necessary to provide a solid, smoother surface.
Measure opening to determine if extensions are need- ed. Correct width will be reached by adjusting all 4 corner spindles. Each spindle adjusts individually and may be extended to varying lengths (up to 2” each) to allow for molding, uneven walls, etc. If using gate on a stairway, it must be placed on the lowest stair on bottom.
2.Spindle attachment is different when using extensions and when not using extensions. If no extension/s are used, insert spindle housings (D) and spindles (B and C) as shown.
3.If using extension/s (see Extension Placement
Guide) insert square extension tubes into gate ends. Connect extension bar (G) to one upper extension housing (E) and one lower extension housing (F). Push assembly over extension tubes (H). There should be no metal showing from extension tubes. It may be necessary to apply pressure to tubes to ensure they are fully inserted into gate ends. Slide spindles into extension tubes.
4.Open the handle to the raised position by pressing
buttons (R) on both sides of gate at the same time and lifting handle (N). BUTTONS MUST ALWAYS BE PRESSED IN WHEN LIFTING HANDLE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN HANDLE MECHANISM BREAKING.
5.Disengage tension lever by pressing the button and pushing the tab in at the same time (1). Lift up (2).
6.Center gate in opening with bottom rail resting on floor. Gaps on each side should be equal. Pull out all four spindles until they touch mounting surface and bottom spindles rest on top of floor molding (if applicable).
Loosely tighten handwheels TOWARD GATE FRAME on all 4 spindles.
7.Tighten bottom handwheels as tightly as possible (7a and 7b).
8.Engage tension lever by pressing lever down (1) and pulling out tab (2).
9.IMPORTANT: If gate is properly tightenend the yel- low and red pressure indicators will be absent (9a).
If the red indicator is present, further tightening is required (9b). If yellow is present gate installation is acceptable but additional tightening is encouraged. Disengage tension lever, tighten handwheels again and
10.Tighten top hinge side spindle handwheel (10a) until the gate door locator rests over the bottom frame (10b).
11.Tighten handle side spindle handwheel until space is about 1/8” and close handle.
12.IMPORTANT: There is a pressure indicator on the handle. If black is present, gate is secure (12a). If the red indicator is present, further tightening is required (12b). If yellow is present gate installation is accept- able but additional tightening is encouraged. Tighten top handwheels until yellow disappears (12c).
Once all pressure indicators present black, gate is securely installed.
Operation
13.To Open Gate- Release locking mechanism by pressing buttons (R) on both sides of gate at the same time and lifting handle (N). BUTTONS MUST ALWAYS
BE PRESSED IN WHEN LIFTING HANDLE. FAILURE
TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN HANDLE MECHANISM
BREAKING.
To Close
Position bottom door locator until it is above bottom rail. Make sure hinge has dropped down. Push handle down to lock.
Gate should always be in locked position when in use.
