SCSI BUS CONSIDERATIONS

The length of the SCSI interface cables used to interconnect the LF 6600 with other SCSI devices is dictated by the type of SCSI controller installed in each LF 6600. A maximum of seven LF 6600's can be connected to a host computer in a daisy chained configuration using the appropriate SCSI controller and cable options.

When the single-ended interface controller is used on all SCSI devices, the total length of the SCSI interface cable cannot exceed 6 m (19.5 ft). (Plasmon LMS does not recommend single-ended fast synchronous.) When a differential interface controller is used on all SCSI devices, the total SCSI interface cable length cannot exceed 25 m (82 ft).

NOTE

The internal SCSI cable for each LF 6600 is approximately 120 mm (4.8 in.). This distance must be considered as part of the total SCSI cable length.

No stub connections are permitted.

The SCSI interface cabling used to interconnect an LF 6600 to a host can be daisy chained between SCSI devices as illustrated below. One interface cable is required to interface each pair of SCSI devices.

(1)The SCSI bus must also be terminated at the host adapter end. Normally, the termination function is built into the host adapter.

A terminator must be installed on the vacant connector of the last SCSI device in the SCSI bus chain. The SCSI bus must be terminated externally on the LF 6600 rear panel when an LF 6600 is the last SCSI device on the bus.
