3.7 RACING MODE

The Racing mode is a main mode reserved for racing functions, and can only be activated in the Sailing and Navigation modes. The main display of the Racing mode changes according to the race situation.

3.7.1 Main Display

Before starting the race, Suunto M9 asks you to set the pa- rameters for the start line, race timer and wind direction.

Before the parameters have been set in the Function menu, the following is displayed:

Set Startline: The first row prompts to set the start line.

Set Timer: The second row prompts to synchronize the timer.

Set Wind dir: The third row prompts to save the wind direc- tion.

NOTE: When the Navigation is on, an indicator is displayed on the left side of the lower horizontal dot line of the display.

To set the parameters in the Function menu, short press Enter

in the Racing mode’s main display. (For information on the Function menu before the race, see page 46.)

After you have set the parameters, the following is displayed:

Distance to start line (dsl): The first row displays the distance to the start line.

Timer: The second row displays the time left to the start.

Time to start line (tsl): The third row displays the time left to cross the start line based on current speed, and heading.

The Info display shows the line bias (wind deviation from the perpendicular line to the start line) with corresponding time (minutes) before start and favorable side of the line. P means wind is biased to port side and S means starboard.

Press Start/data to access info display.

Press Start/data, Enter or Stop/cancel to return to main display.
