Selecting the Sources and Starting Play

Adjusting the Volume

To select FM, AM or external component as the source, press TUNER/LINE repeatedly until “FM,” “AM” or “LINE*” is selected.

If the unit is in standby mode, the power automatically comes on at the first press of the button.

Each time you press the button, the source changes as follows:

FM AM

LINE

FM : To tune in to the last received FM station.

AM : To tune in to the last received AM station.

LINE* : To use the external equipment connected to the LINE IN terminal.

*If you have changed the source name of the external component, the currently selected source name will appear (see page 22).

To select the CD player as the source, press CD 3/8.

When the unit is in standby mode:

The unit automatically turns on.

When the unit is turned on:

“CD PLAY” appears in the main display for a while.

Playback will start if a CD is on the CD tray.

“CD NO DISC” will appear in the main display if a CD is not loaded.

To stop playback, press 7.

To select the HDD (hard disk drive) as the source, press HDD 3/8.

When the unit is in standby mode:

The unit automatically turns on.

When the unit is turned on:

“HDD PLAY” appears in the main display for a while.

“HDD NO DATA” will appear in the main display if nothing is recorded. (To record into the HDD, see pages 38 to 47.)

To stop playback, press 7.

You can adjust the volume level only while the unit is turned on.

To increase the volume, press VOLUME + . To decrease the volume, press VOLUME .

You can adjust the volume within the range of 0 (silence) to 50 (maximum).

When you press and hold the button, the volume level keeps changing.

For private listening

Connect a pair of headphones to the PHONES jack inside the front door. No sound comes out of the speakers. Be sure to turn down the volume before connecting or putting on the headphones.

If “CANNOT LISTEN!” appears in the main display

During high-speed recording (PCM x2 REC, PCM x4 REC) (see page 43), you cannot listen to any source, and therefore, cannot adjust the volume level.

DO NOT turn off (in standby mode) the unit with the volume set to an extremely high level; otherwise, the sudden blast of sound can damage your hearing, speakers and/or headphones when you turn on the unit or start playing any source.

REMEMBER you cannot adjust the volume level while the unit is in standby mode.
