Shaper Cutter Installation

Note: Spindle installation is described in the previous section.

When changing tools, making adjustments, or doing clean-up and maint- enance, always turn the machine off and unplug the machine from its power source.

Locking the Spindle

1.Locate the spindle lock (F, Fig. 15) accessible through the door on the right side of the cabinet. Pull out and rotate 90º right or left, resetting the knob into the indent.

Attempt to turn the spindle (B, Fig. 15) by hand to verify that it is locked and will not rotate.

Installing the Shaper Cutter

Referring to Figure 16:

1.Place the shaper cutter (A) (not included) onto the spindle, oriented in the proper direction.

2.Place the spacers (B) and keyed collar (C) onto the spindle.

Note: Spacers come in several widths and the stacked selection (B) must be such that the top of the keyed collar (C) sits slightly above the top of the spindle (D). This will ensure sufficient pressure to properly secure the shaper cutter (A) when installation is complete.

3.Install the pronged washer (E) and socket head cap screw (F). Tighten screw with the 8mm hex wrench provided.

Unlocking the Spindle

4.Pull out the spindle lock (F, Fig. 15) accessible through the door on the right side of the cabinet. Rotate 90º right or left, resetting the knob into the indent.

Using gloves to prevent injury from the shaper cutter, turn the spindle (B) by hand to verify that it turns freely.

Router Collet (Optional) Installation

1.Locate the spindle lock (F, Fig. 15) accessible through the door on the right side of the cabinet. Pull out and rotate 90º right or left, resetting the knob into the indent.

Attempt to turn the spindle (B, Fig. 15) by hand to verify that it is locked and will not rotate.

2.Place the router collet (A, Fig. 17) onto the spindle (B, Fig. 17) and secure with the wrench (K, Fig. 15) provided.

PM2700 specifications

The Powermatic PM2700 is a powerful and versatile bandsaw designed to meet the needs of both professional woodworkers and enthusiastic hobbyists. This robust machine is known for its exceptional cutting performance, advanced features, and user-friendly design.

One of the standout characteristics of the PM2700 is its impressive motor. Equipped with a 3 HP, 230-volt motor, the bandsaw delivers ample power, ensuring that users can tackle even the most challenging materials with ease. The motor operates smoothly and quietly, which enhances the overall working experience.

The PM2700 features a precision-engineered cast iron frame, which provides stability and reduces vibration during operation. The cast iron table is a generous 21 inches by 27 inches, supporting large workpieces while maintaining accuracy in cuts. Additionally, the table incorporates a high-quality, tilting feature that allows for bevel cuts, expanding the functionality of the bandsaw.

An essential aspect of any bandsaw is its cutting capacity, and the PM2700 excels in this area. It offers a resaw capacity of 12 inches, allowing woodworkers to easily slice through thick material. The machine also features an adjustable blade tensioning system that enables quick and precise adjustments to achieve optimal blade performance.

The PM2700 is equipped with an advanced blade tracking system, which helps in maintaining correct blade alignment during operations. This feature significantly reduces the risk of blade wandering, resulting in cleaner cuts and enhanced accuracy. The easy-to-use blade change system further simplifies maintenance, allowing users to switch blades with minimal effort.

Another notable technology integrated into the PM2700 is the built-in digital readout that provides real-time feedback on blade height adjustments. This digital feature ensures that woodworkers can make precise and repeatable cuts with confidence.

For safety, the bandsaw comes with several important features, including a blade guard and quick-release mechanism. Additionally, its robust construction minimizes the risk of injuries associated with vibrations and instability.

Overall, the Powermatic PM2700 is a top-of-the-line bandsaw that combines power, precision, and safety features, making it an excellent choice for anyone serious about woodworking. With its heavy-duty construction and user-friendly design, it promises to deliver outstanding results and durability for years to come.
