The SmartNode 4960 Gateway-Router performs the following major functions:

Up to 120 channels of Voice over IP and local voice switching via 1 or 4 PRI ports. PRI ports can be oper- ated in user or net mode. Any port can be used as clock source.

Standard compliant VoIP in accordance with SIP or H.323 protocols.

Internet access and IP Routing with IP Quality of Service (QoS) support for mixed voice and data traffic.

Optional integrated G.SHDSL.bis WAN interface. Up to 5.7 Mbps symmetrical throughput, supporting ATM QoS. Supports multiple PVC and DSLAM interoperability.
