NOTE: The hard drive spare part kit does not include the hard drive connector cable, isolators, or shield. The hard drive connector cable, isolators, and shield are included in the Hard Drive Hardware Kit, spare part number 639444-001. The hard drive connector cable is included in the Cable Kit, spare part number 640206-001.

Before removing the hard drive or SSD, follow these steps:

1.Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.

2.Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.

3.Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.

4.Remove the battery (see Battery on page 37).

5.Remove the service door (see Optical drive on page 39).

Remove the hard drive or SSD:

1.Disconnect the drive connector cable (1) from the system board.

2.Lift the front edge of the drive (2) until it rests at an angle.
