immediately. CO poisoning can be determined by a car- boxyhemoglobin test.

The following symptoms are related to CARBON MONOX- IDE POISONING and should be discussed with ALL members of the household:

1.Mild Exposure: Slight headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue (often described as “Flu-like” symptoms)

2.Medium Exposure: Severe throbbing headache, drowsiness, confusion, fast heart rate

3.Extreme Exposure: Unconsciousness, convulsions,

cardiorespiratory failure, death

The above levels of exposure relate to healthy adults. Levels differ for those at high risk. Exposure to high levels of car- bon monoxide can be fatal or cause permanent damage and disabilities. Many cases of reported carbon monoxide poisoning indicate that while victims are aware they are not well, they become so disoriented they are unable to save themselves by either exiting the building, or calling for assis- tance. Also, young children and household pets may be the first effected. Familiarization with the effects of each level is important.

Escape Plan

Prepare and practice a home escape plan twice a year, including drills at night. Know two ways out of every room (door & window) and identify a meeting place outside the home where everyone will gather once they have exited the residence. When two people have reached the meeting place, one should leave to call 911 while the second person stays to account for additional family members. Establish a rule that once you’re out, you never reenter under any circumstance!

Another key characteristic of this alarm is its digital display, which provides real-time information about the levels of carbon monoxide present in the environment. This feature allows users to monitor CO levels accurately, understanding things beyond just standard alarm triggers. The device also includes a peak level memory that stores the highest CO reading, enabling homeowners to take necessary actions if elevated levels are recorded.

The KN-COSMXTR-B is user-friendly, equipped with a voice alarm feature that announces the type of danger detected, whether smoke or carbon monoxide. This vocal alert system is crucial, particularly for those who may struggle to recognize beeping sounds during stressful situations. Additionally, the alarm incorporates a test/reset button, making it easy to check functionality and silence the alarm when necessary.

Another notable aspect of the Kidde KN-COSMXTR-B is its battery backup. The device operates on a 9V battery, ensuring continued functionality even during power outages, which is essential for safety.
