Care and Cleaning

Stainless Steel Hood

Before servicing or cleaning the unit, switch power off at the service panel and lock the service panel to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. If the service panel cannot be locked, fasten a tag or prominent warning label to the panel.

Charcoal filter

(for use with recirculation mode only)

If the hood is not vented to the outside, the air will be recirculated through disposable charcoal filters that help remove smoke and odors.

The charcoal filter should be replaced when it is noticeably dirty or discolored (usually after 6 to 12 months, depending on hood usage).

NOTE: DO NOT rinse, or put charcoal filter in an automatic dishwasher.

The charcoal filters cannot be cleaned. They must be replaced.

This kit can be ordered from GE parts. Please see Consumer Services section for details.

To install, align char- coal filter with notch on plastic blower cover and turn filter counter- clockwise to lock into place. Make sure both tabs are engaged and filter is secure.

To remove, turn filter clockwise to disen- gage both tabs and pull gently.

Metal baffle grease filters

The metal baffles channel grease released by foods into the drip trays. The baffles also help pre- vent flaming foods on the cooktop from damaging

the inside of the hood. For this reason, the baffles must ALWAYS be in place when the hood is used.

The baffle grease filters should be cleaned once a month, or as needed.

To remove the metal baffle grease filter, hold the filter by both knobs. Push the filter into the front (upper) filter channel until it is released from the rear channel. Lower the back of the filter and push away from the front channel until it clears.

These grease filters can be cleaned by hand or in the dishwasher using non-abrasive soap. To clean them by hand, soak and then swish them around in warm water and detergent. Do not use ammonia or ammonia products because they will darken the metal. Do not use abrasives or oven cleaners. Light brushing can be used to remove embedded dirt. Rinse, shake and let dry before replacing.

To replace the baffle grease filter, hold both filter knobs while positioning the front end of the filter into the upper (front) filter channel. Pull the filter as far forward as possible into the channel. Push the filter into the rear channel and adjust until it seats properly.

Hood surfaces

Do not use a steel-wool pad; it will scratch the surface.

To clean the stainless steel surface, use warm, sudsy water or a stainless steel cleaner or polish. Always wipe the surface in the direction of the grain.
