Freestandingranges:The right front surface element willnot operateduring a self-cleanoperation,

Slide-inand drop-in ranges: The cooktopwill net operateduringa self-cleanoperation.

Cooktopmay emit a light smoke and odor the first few times cooktop is used. This is normal.

Element under smoothtopcycles on and off to maintain the presetheat setting. Elementwill glow red when it cycles ON.

SrnoothtopRETAINSheat for a period of time after the unit is turned off. When the HOT SURFACElight turns off, cooktopwill be cool enough to touch.

Before usingcooktopfor the first time, cleanit thoroughly as directed in the cleaning chart on page 22. This will protect the smoothtop and will guarantee a clean cooktop when the elements are turned on.

Aluminum foil will damagethe smoothtop if it meltsonto the top. Never use aluminum foil or foil-type disposable containerssuch as popcorn poppers.They may leave metal marks or may permanentlymelt onto the smoothtop.

Important: Watch sugaryor starchysolutions carefully to avoid boilovers.If a sugar solution (jam,jelly, candy) or a starch solution (potatoes, rice) boils over, it may pit or discolorthe smoothtop.Turn element to LOW and clean

believerimmediately. See page 22 for cleaning instructions.
